Our Founding

Lowry & Lowry was first founded in 1979 when Ed Lowry Jr. graduated law school and started practicing with his father, Ed Lowry Sr.. Born in 1923, Ed Sr. grew up in Middletown, Kentucky, during the Great Depression. After attending Anchorage High School, he joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a radar navigator and bombardier on a B-17 bomber.  Upon returning home, he enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Louisville, where he would later attend law school.

In 1950, Ed Sr. graduated from law school ranked 7th in his class and went into private practice. He quickly developed a successful practice handling various kinds of cases, such as family law, business law, and wills and estates. Ed Jr. eventually followed in his father’s footsteps, also attending the University of Louisville for undergraduate and law school. Like his father, Ed Jr. graduated near the top of his class, ultimately ranking 2nd. After law school, Ed Jr. joined his father’s practice and together they formed the law firm of Lowry & Lowry.

Our Philosophy

As a third-generation law practice that values its own legacy, we know the importance of leaving a legacy for your family.  Too often people view a person’s legacy exclusively in terms of financial wealth.  At Lowry & Lowry, we believe a person’s financial wealth is only a part of the much larger legacy of family values and traditions that they leave for their loved ones.  That’s why we focus our planning not only on transferring financial wealth, but also on passing family values and traditions.

When the time comes for your family to implement an estate plan, whether through estate or trust administration, we’ll be there to help streamline the process so that your loved ones can focus on celebrating your life and legacy, rather than dealing with the headaches that many families encounter.

Our History

While Ed Sr. had been a general practitioner his entire career, Ed Jr. eventually decided to focus exclusively on estate planning and estate/trust administration. When Ed Sr. retired in 1988, Lowry & Lowry was temporarily dissolved. After his retirement, Ed Jr. continued his career as a partner at the local law firm Conliffe, Sandmann, & Sullivan, where he maintained his focus on estate planning and estate/trust administration. In 2013, Ed Jr.’s oldest son, Ben Lowry, also graduated from law school at the University of Louisville. Like his father and grandfather, Ben graduated near the top of his class, ultimately ranking 3rd. After graduation, Ben clerked for U.S. District Judge Charles R. Simpson, III, and then worked as an associate at the local law firm Middleton Reutlinger. After practicing there for almost two years, Ben joined Ed Jr. in June 2016 and they began planning to re-open Lowry & Lowry. You can learn more about Ben and his career here.

In January 2017, Lowry & Lowry was officially re-opened serving clients in Kentucky and Indiana. Ed and Ben take pride in preserving Ed Sr.’s legacy by continuing to provide the highest quality legal services to their clients.
